My name is John. Years ago, I made an online account and tried to use john as my username (I know, how naive can you get?). The username was—unsurprisingly—taken, but this particular site had a handy pop-up that said something like, “john is already taken. But john35588 is available!” I decided to go with it, and it has followed me from site to site ever since!

I am always looking for hands-on ways to learn something new, which is largely where this site came from. I have been getting into self-hosting recently, and wondered, “what would it be like to completely self-host my own website?” I had previously made a free site on Wordpress, but I wanted to start from the ground up with my own hardware. Now here we are!

I want to use this site to document some of my current hobbies and projects, and to hopefully encourage others to get out there and work on some projects of their own!
